La Fondazione

La Fondazione Luigi Firpo – Centro di Studi sul Pensiero Politico Onlus, legata al nome e alla multiforme attività scientifica di Luigi Firpo, studioso delle dottrine politiche, è stata costituita nel 1989 ed è stata legalmente riconosciuta dalla Regione Piemonte con delibera della G. R. P. in data 23 gennaio 1990.
Ne sono soci fondatori la Famiglia Firpo, la Regione Piemonte, la Provincia e la Città di Torino, la Cassa di Risparmio di Torino.
Nei locali di Palazzo d'Azeglio fino al 2015 e poi in piazza Carlo Alberto 3 presso la Biblioteca Nazionale Universitaria di Torino, la Fondazione svolge attività di tutela, promozione e valorizzazione della propria biblioteca e del “Fondo Antico”, di proprietà dello Stato, che insieme costituiscono l’unicum della biblioteca che fu di Luigi Firpo, dichiarata di eccezionale interesse con D.M. del 13.11.1987. Il fondo moderno della biblioteca è aperto alla libera consultazione interna.
La Fondazione promuove gli studi e le ricerche attinenti ogni manifestazione o aspetto della riflessione politica, senza limiti cronologici o geografici, nello spirito della più totale indipendenza e con criteri strettamente scientifici; forma giovani studiosi interessati a questa disciplina fornendo loro adeguati ambienti e strumenti di lavoro; favorisce ogni iniziativa utile al progresso degli studi e delle ricerche; organizza incontri, conferenze, presentazioni, seminari e convegni aperti al pubblico.

English Overview

The Fondazione Luigi Firpo - Centro di Studi sul Pensiero Politico Onlus was established in 1989 and is named after Luigi Firpo (1915-1989), the renowned historian of political thought who taught at Turin University and distinguished himself in several fields of culture and research.
The wide range of Luigi Firpo's scientific interests is reflected in the studies sponsored and promoted by the Foundation and in its various activities.
Its principal purpose is to encourage political and historical studies regardless of time and place and to support the training of young researchers by awarding them scholarships and research grants. Their studies are published by Rome's Edizioni di Storia e Letteratura in a special book series, along with the proceedings of the colloquia organized by the Foundation.
The Foundation was located in central Turin, in the seventeenth century Palazzo d'Azeglio at via Principe Amedeo 34 until 2015. Since 2016 the Foundation and the library are in Piazza Carlo Alberto 3 at the Biblioteca Nazionale Universitaria di Torino.
At the heart of its activities is the library bequeathed by Luigi Firpo, which consists of 6,000 books dating from the 15th to early 19th centuries and treating all aspects of early modern European history and culture.
In addition to this valuable treasure, and to Professor Firpo's sizeable collection of 19th- and 20th- century books, the Foundation regularly acquires current scholarly volumes covering the fields of political thought (particularly about reason of state and utopian thinking) and early modern political, cultural and religious history.
